Eastman Kodak has ended Canon's more than 20-year reign as Japan's top camera brand by sales volume in fiscal 2025, driven by a resurgence in popularity among young consumers. The company's affordable compact camera models, such as the PIXPRO FZ55, have resonated with a generation seeking a break from smartphones and a connection to nostalgic photography.
According to data collected in October by BCN+R, Kodak's PIXPRO FZ55 was the best-selling compact camera in Japan, with its black variant being particularly popular. Other Kodak models, including the PIXPRO C1 Black and PIXPRO WPZ2, also secured spots in the top rankings. The PIXPRO FZ55 is affordably priced below 30,000 yen.
Kodak also emerged as the winner on Yodobashi Camera's October sales charts with its PIXPRO C1 model, outperforming cameras from established brands like Leica, Sony, and OM System, as well as Canon's PowerShot SX740 HS and Sony's VLOGCAM ZV-1 II. This success highlights a growing demand for cost-effective cameras that cater to casual hobbyists and those seeking a nostalgic photographic experience.
