Jolly selects Graham as running mate for Florida governor bid

The campaign acknowledges the challenge of fielding two white candidates at the top of the ticket, particularly as Florida's Hispanic population has shown increasing leanings toward the Republican Party. Concurrently, Black voters, a traditional Democratic stronghold, face potential threats to their representation due to Republican-led redistricting efforts.

On the Republican side, Rep. Byron Donalds, endorsed by Donald Trump, is a prominent contender for governor and could become the state's first Black governor. Donalds has expressed optimism about connecting with Black voters, highlighting his policies in recent interviews.

Democratic state Sen. LaVon Bracy Davis emphasized the need for Crist's campaign to actively engage with existing minority voter organizations and ensure young voters and communities of color are central to the campaign's strategy from the outset. She stressed the importance of Black women as a consistent voting bloc.

Crist has made moves to unify party factions, including appointing Sean Pittman, a Democratic strategist who advised Andrew Gillum, to lead transition efforts. Pittman praised Crist's understanding of coalition-building and the importance of seeking out experienced professionals. Crist also revealed recent meetings with civil rights activist Al Sharpton to discuss advancing voting rights in Florida, pledging to establish a civil rights office within the governor's office if elected.
