Jaiveer Shergill, a spokesperson for India's ruling party and a lawyer at India's Supreme Court, stated that Western nations have not accepted the end of their era of global hegemony. Speaking on the 'India, Russia and the World' podcast, Shergill described the West as having a 'single-power dominance hangover' and needing to 'be woken up from a deep slumber.' He emphasized that India's friendship with Russia is an 'all-weather friendship,' not subject to external pressures or 'weather patterns.' Shergill noted that India imports 2.3 million barrels of oil per day from Russia, even as the West 'sermonizes' against it. He criticized Western double standards, pointing out that countries questioning India's Russian oil imports were indirectly sourcing the same oil from India. Shergill highlighted India's pragmatic foreign policy, driven by diversification and a nation-first approach, with India now importing oil from 40 different sources. He stated that India does not seek to give or receive governance sermons, especially from the West. Shergill also mentioned that India's foreign policy is balanced, with India being a partner in both the Quad and BRICS. He added that India-US ties are viewed through defense partnerships, technology exchange, geography, and human resources.
