Holtec Nuclear is aiming for a valuation of up to $10.2 billion in its U.S. initial public offering, signaling the start of Wall Street's post-Labor Day dealmaking period. The Camden, New Jersey-based company plans to offer 50 million shares at a price between $15 and $18 each, seeking to raise approximately $900 million. This move comes as the fall season traditionally sees a surge in new listings after the summer slowdown.
According to IPOX Research Associate Lukas Muehlbauer, the success of early listings could encourage more companies to go public, while poorly priced deals might narrow the available window. He also noted that economic fundamentals, market conditions, and the Federal Reserve's upcoming meeting will influence the IPO market, with less impact expected from the recent midterms.
Holtec's IPO is part of a broader trend in the nuclear energy sector, with companies increasingly choosing traditional IPOs over special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). Other nuclear firms like X-energy and Standard Nuclear have already gone public this year via traditional IPOs, and Westinghouse has also confidentially filed for a New York listing.
The increased demand for nuclear energy is driven by the significant electricity needs of expanding data centers, which are straining existing U.S. power grids and reviving interest in nuclear reactors. Founded in 1986 by Krishna Singh, Holtec specializes in heat transfer and reactor components, spent fuel storage, and nuclear plant decommissioning. The company is also developing small modular reactors (SMRs) and is working to restart the decommissioned 800-megawatt Palisades plant, which would be the first U.S. commercial reactor to resume operations after being shut down. J.P. Morgan, Guggenheim Securities, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and BofA Securities are serving as joint lead book-running managers for the offering. Holtec is set to list on the Nasdaq and Nasdaq Texas under the ticker symbol "HNUC".
