Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for a global maritime truce on Thursday, stating that attacks on civilian commercial shipping are unacceptable and threaten international trade and security. Speaking during a high-level debate at the Greek presidency of the U.N. Security Council on emerging technologies and maritime security, Mitsotakis stressed that commercial vessels must be able to navigate safely and freely, even during times of conflict. He added that disruptions to freedom of navigation increase shipping and insurance costs, create global market uncertainty, and ultimately raise consumer costs.
