Greece has launched a new digital platform and app named PosoKanei, designed to help consumers combat inflation and the rising cost of living by comparing supermarket prices in real time. Unveiled by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the platform provides access to prices for approximately 10,000 products, with data updated daily.
Users can compare prices not only within Greece across various supermarket chains like Galaxias, Sklavenitis, and Lidl, but also see corresponding prices from retail chains in other European countries, including Italy, France, Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Spain. Portugal is expected to be added soon. The app also offers a price history of at least two months for each item, enabling shoppers to identify potentially misleading discounts or special offers.
Mitsotakis stated that the PosoKanei app equips Greek consumers with another 'weapon' in their fight against inflation, which stood at 5% in May, and against unjustifiably high prices compared to other EU markets. The platform also allows users to create personalized shopping lists and suggests lower-cost alternatives within the same product category, aiming to help reduce overall grocery bills.
