Golden Pet Brands, a pet food company with brands including Dr. Marty Pets, Badlands Ranch, and Ultimate Pet Nutrition, has selected investment banks Morgan Stanley and Barclays to manage its initial public offering. Sources familiar with the matter indicated the listing could occur as soon as this year and potentially value the company at over $1 billion.
Launched in 2017 by brand incubator Golden Hippo and now operating under an Employee Stock Ownership Plan model, Golden Pet Brands has two manufacturing facilities in the U.S. Its products include food, treats, and supplements for dogs and cats. The Dr. Marty Pets brand is associated with veterinarian Dr. Marty Goldstein, while actress Katherine Heigl founded Badlands Ranch, and actor Rob Lowe is a spokesperson for Ultimate Pet Nutrition.
In April, the company appointed Apu Mody, formerly of Mars, Procter & Gamble, and Del Monte Foods, as its chief executive officer. John Meloun, previously CFO of Xponential Fitness, joined as CFO. Several other consumer and retail companies, such as Jersey Mike's and Reformation, have recently gone public, with more, including Open Farm and Wella, in the pipeline.
