Four men have pleaded guilty to their involvement in an arson attack that destroyed four Jewish charity-owned ambulances in Golders Green, north London. The blaze, which occurred on March 23, caused approximately £1 million in damage to the vehicles and medical equipment, and also affected nearby flats and a synagogue.
Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, Judex Atshatshi, 18, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, previously appeared in court. Iqbal, Khan, and the teenager are charged with arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered. Atshatshi faces charges of arson with intent to damage and being reckless as to whether life would be endangered. All four have been bailed until August.
Prosecutors believe the incident was a targeted attack against the Jewish community. The fire is one of several recent attacks on Jewish targets in London being investigated by counter-terrorism officers in the Metropolitan Police.
Additionally, a teenager, Subhan Ahmed, 18, has been charged with assisting an offender in connection with the attacks. He is alleged to have made arrangements to scrap his car to help others avoid arrest or prosecution. Ahmed, from Walthamstow, north-east London, has been bailed and is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates on June 16. He is the fifth person to be charged over the incident.
