Former Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen has joined the ranks of investors in the Danish fintech unicorn Flatpay. He is now a shareholder alongside notable figures such as Italian football legend Paolo Maldini and French international footballer Antoine Griezmann.
Flatpay, which serves over 100,000 clients across Europe, announced Magnussen's investment, with CEO Sander Janca-Jensen expressing pride in securing someone of Magnussen's caliber. The 33-year-old racer stated that the decision to invest was straightforward, highlighting the company's understanding of the critical needs of retailers.
Magnussen's investment portfolio already includes stakes in the healthy food chain Oakberry and partial ownership of French football club Le Mans FC, where he co-owns with other athletes like Felipe Massa, Thibaut Courtois, and Novak Djokovic. He emphasized that a dependable payment partner is crucial for day-to-day retail operations, a sentiment echoed by Flatpay's CEO who noted Magnussen's own experience as a retailer.
While co-founder Janca-Jensen and his colleagues hold the majority shareholding, the venture capital growth funds collectively own around 30 percent of the company. Magnussen, along with Griezmann, Maldini, and German footballer Mario Gotze, are part of a minority angel investor fund.
