Finnish police and border guards announced on Wednesday that four Ukrainian military drones found in Finland in March and April had been diverted from their intended routes. The diversion was attributed to strong Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) jamming detected in the eastern Gulf of Finland at the time, combined with prevailing weather conditions.
The investigation established that the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) originated in Ukraine and were part of Ukraine's countermeasures in response to Russia's war of aggression. However, the drones were not targeted at Finland. The agencies confirmed that all four drones carried explosives, but no injuries or property damage were reported in connection with their crashes.
Authorities stated that the prosecutor had closed the investigations into the incidents, finding no grounds to pursue criminal liability. Finland and its neighbors Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have recently experienced several incidents where Ukrainian drones aimed at Russia have strayed into their airspace.
