Key facts
- Solana has had no reported mainnet outages in two years.
- Stake concentration among a small number of validator identities and operators warrants observation.
- Solana has reduced its slot time to 350 milliseconds.
- Further 50ms reductions in slot times are planned.
Solana has made significant progress in network health, resilience, economic security, and performance indicators, according to a report by Fidelity’s Center for Applied Technology (FCAT). The report noted that economic security is supported by substantial staking participation and incentives that reward validator performance, with low latency, expanded capacity, and inexpensive transactions supporting practical use at scale. However, the report also identified areas surrounding decentralization and resilience that warrant continued observation, particularly the concentration of stake among a small number of validator identities and operators. In August, Solana reduced its slot time to 350 milliseconds, and the Solana Foundation has shared plans for three further 50ms reductions to improve latency and accelerate confirmations.
