Fiat's two-seat Topolino electric mini car has officially launched in the U.S. market, with a starting price of $13,995, before a $990 destination charge. The vehicle, which has been available in Europe since 2023, is less than 100 inches long, features 8 horsepower, and has a top speed of 19 mph. It weighs just over 1,000 pounds and offers an estimated range of 46 miles on its 5.4-kilowatt-hour battery, which takes five hours to charge.
Initially, the Topolino is restricted to private property use, such as within private communities, resorts, and golf courses. However, Fiat plans to offer a complimentary conversion kit this fall that will increase its top speed to 25 mph, making it street-legal as a low-speed vehicle.
The Topolino enters the U.S. market at a time when new vehicles are increasingly expensive, with the average transaction price reaching $50,900 this spring. Only a handful of new cars are available with a starting price under $25,000. Fiat aims to test this relatively empty segment of the market with its low-sticker-price offering.
For Fiat, the Topolino's launch could also help boost brand recognition in the U.S., where its current lineup consists solely of the 500e, which has seen a significant sales decline this year. A quirky overseas accessory, a beach-style shower head, will not be available at the initial U.S. launch, though Fiat is considering offering it later.
