Craig Williams, a former Conservative lawmaker and parliamentary private secretary to ex-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, has pleaded guilty to cheating at gambling. Williams admitted to using confidential information obtained from meetings discussing the election date to place bets. He placed three bets between 22.50 pounds and 250 pounds on the timing of the U.K.'s general election, which was set for July 4, 2024. Three additional charges that Williams denied will be dropped. Amy Hind, the wife of Conservative deputy digital director Anthony Hind, also pleaded guilty to cheating at betting. Charges against her husband for passing information were dropped. A total of fifteen people have been charged in connection with the scandal, with potential prison sentences of up to two years for those convicted. Williams was granted unconditional bail.
