China has showcased advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology during deep-sea trials of its upgraded Jiaolong submersible. The crewed submersible reached a maximum depth of 7,056.9 meters (23,000 feet) during three dives in the Philippine Basin in the western Pacific Ocean. State news agency Xinhua reported the trials on October 27. The AI systems demonstrated could potentially be used to support decision-making and emergency responses aboard nuclear-powered submarines.
