According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the child, identified as Kohen Wiley, was in the vehicle with his mother and her friend. Authorities stated that as police attempted to stop the car, the driver drove toward officers, nearly hitting one, which led to the officer firing at the vehicle. The vehicle then drove away.
The two women in the car took the child to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The child's mother was unharmed, but her friend sustained serious injuries. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting.
