Key facts
- Brookfield will build the 1.8-gigawatt AI and HPC data center campus.
- NextEra Energy will develop 2 GW of natural gas generation and 2.6 GW of battery storage.
- The project aims to be resource-efficient with a closed-loop cooling system.
- The site was formerly the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
Brookfield Asset Management and NextEra Energy are set to develop a $100 billion artificial intelligence and high-performance computing innovation campus at a former uranium enrichment site in Western Kentucky. The U.S. Department of Energy announced the initiative, which aims to create approximately 8,000 construction jobs and 600 permanent operations roles, with a phased buildout planned for 2032. Brookfield will construct the 1.8-gigawatt data center campus, while NextEra Energy will develop 2 gigawatts of natural gas generation alongside 2.6 gigawatts of battery energy storage. The project emphasizes resource efficiency with a closed-loop cooling system, contrasting with the historical water consumption of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
