The Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) is reportedly in discussions to acquire a 20% stake in the UK-based investment bank Panmure Liberum. This potential acquisition follows a strategic partnership announced on November 3, 2025, which aimed to leverage Panmure Liberum's investment banking expertise to serve BBK's corporate clients in Bahrain and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
The partnership, signed at the Gateway Gulf conference, was designed to create a bridge for investment and capital flows between the UK and the GCC. Under this arrangement, Panmure Liberum acts as an extension of BBK's team, offering corporate finance advice on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt capital raising, and IPO support. BBK, one of Bahrain's largest banks with a presence in Kuwait, the UAE, and Turkey, has a five-decade history in the region's banking sector.
Rich Ricci, CEO of Panmure Liberum, highlighted the similarities in market structures and the quality of talent in Bahrain, viewing the partnership as an opportunity to access growing markets. Yaser Alsharifi, Group Chief Executive of BBK, expressed enthusiasm for bringing leading investment banking services to their clients and broadening the bank's value proposition.
