Asos shares tumbled significantly after customers received a push notification claiming hackers had "fully compromised" the online fashion retailer's data systems and threatened to leak information unless the company engaged with them. The notification, titled "ASOS HACKED", was sent to app users on Tuesday morning and addressed to Asos's Data Protection Officer and IT department, stating, "Dear ASOS DPO and IT, we have fully compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it." The message also included a link to the Telegram messaging service. In response to the reported hacking, many customers logged into the Asos app and website to delete their payment details. Asos's share price was down by almost 12% at one stage following the notification. Snowflake is a cloud platform used by retailers to store sensitive customer information, including transactions and demographic data. Security experts expressed concern over the potential access to this data and warned customers about increased phishing attempts. This potential hack follows similar cyber incidents at other British retailers like Marks & Spencer and the Co-op last year.
