Philippine Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations envoy on Myanmar, met with Myanmar's Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe in Naypyitaw on Thursday. The discussions centered on Myanmar's ongoing civil war and humanitarian access. Myanmar's army-backed government is seeking to normalize ties with ASEAN after being barred from summits in 2021 due to its failure to de-escalate conflict following the military coup. State media reported that Tin Maung Swe stated Myanmar is working to implement ASEAN's five-point peace plan. Lazaro also sought access to detained Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, with her office noting a "quite positive" response regarding Suu Kyi's well-being.
