Residents of Ukraine's southern city of Kherson cautiously ventured out on Wednesday after a US-brokered ceasefire around the nearby frontline town of Oleshky provided a temporary pause to drone and artillery attacks. The six-day ceasefire, which took effect early Tuesday, is intended to facilitate humanitarian relief for Oleshky, where residents face shortages of food and medicine.
Since Ukrainian troops recaptured Kherson in November 2022, Russian forces on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River have regularly shelled the city and used drones, according to officials. Despite the ongoing danger, the city still functions with buses and open shops, though many buildings are in ruins and streets are largely empty.
