Apple is reportedly cutting hundreds of jobs across its Siri, Intelligent Systems Experience, and Vision Pro teams as the company restructures to focus on its artificial intelligence efforts and new devices. Sources told Bloomberg that over 200 positions have been eliminated, with approximately 100 from the Vision Pro team and another 100 impacting the Siri and Intelligent Systems Experience teams.
Apple confirmed the cuts to Bloomberg, stating the company is looking "to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users." The company added that while new roles would be created, the changes would also impact a limited number of existing positions.
The tech giant is navigating a period of transition, aiming to bolster its AI capabilities while also dealing with increased production costs for its flagship products, partly due to a memory shortage driven by AI buildouts. Apple recently increased prices on Macs and iPads and introduced a leasing plan for its hardware to attract more customers amidst these rising costs. The company is also currently engaged in a legal dispute with OpenAI, accusing it of trade theft.
