Four long-dormant Bitcoin wallets have recently become active, moving a combined 202.84 BTC, valued at approximately $15.73 million, between August 29 and September 4. This trend of ancient cryptocurrency stashes resurfacing continues a pattern observed over the summer.
The largest of these awakened wallets held 146.06 BTC, worth about $11.31 million, and had been untouched since November 2013. Another significant transfer involved 40 BTC, dormant since November 2011. This particular wallet saw an astronomical gain of over 2.5 million percent, effectively turning an initial investment of roughly $120 into more than $3 million over nearly 15 years.
Two smaller wallets also moved: one with 10 BTC last active in June 2011, valued at around $777,000, and another with 6.78 BTC from February 2011, worth approximately $551,000. The oldest holdings, from 2011, showed gains exceeding 2,000% and, in one instance, over 500,000% from their original cost.
While most wallet movements are ambiguous regarding the owner's intent (selling, consolidating, or relocating funds), one 6.78 BTC transfer was tagged with a Coinbase recipient attribution, typically signaling an intention to sell. Several of the reawakened wallets also bore "Noah Doe" sender tags, referencing a New York lawsuit concerning dormant addresses declared abandoned property. These tagged wallets have been active since court proceedings were paused in June.
