Ukraine has enacted a new round of sanctions targeting Russia's defense industry, as outlined in a presidential decree signed on August 3. The latest restrictions encompass 23 individuals and 20 entities with connections to Russia's military-industrial complex.
Key targets include the Morozov Explosives Plant, a state-owned manufacturer of explosives and missile components, including those for the Iskander-M ballistic missile. This facility is owned by Rostec, a Russian state defense conglomerate already under international sanctions. Also designated is Spets-Elektronkomplekt, an electronics manufacturer involved in producing parts for various Russian missile models. The sanctions extend to BPLA-Ural, a Russian firm specializing in unmanned aerial vehicles.
This latest action follows previous sanctions imposed by Kyiv on May 29. At that time, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed decrees aligning Ukraine's restrictions with the European Union's 20th sanctions package against Russia. That EU package broadly targeted Russia's defense, energy, financial, and trade sectors, as well as companies involved in electronic warfare equipment and drone and missile components.
