Russian attacks across Ukraine killed eight people and injured 66 others over the past day, according to local authorities. The southeastern Zaporizhzhia Oblast was the hardest-hit region, with one person killed and 31 injured in strikes on the regional capital on Aug. 2. Six more people were injured in other settlements within the oblast.
A Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia the following morning caused power outages for 45,000 households, with approximately 23,000 still affected by late morning.
In addition to the Zaporizhzhia attacks, Russia launched 181 drones overnight, of which Ukrainian air defenses shot down 163. Fourteen drones successfully hit 13 locations, and debris from intercepted drones also caused damage at two other sites.
Other regions also reported casualties. In Donetsk Oblast, two people were killed and 12 injured. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast saw two deaths and three injuries. Kherson Oblast reported one fatality and six injuries, while Sumy Oblast had one death and five injuries. Kharkiv Oblast recorded one death and one injury, and Mykolaiv Oblast reported two injuries.
The strikes also led to power outages in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Sumy oblasts, according to Ukraine's state grid operator.
