Russian planes dropped eight powerful glide bombs on residential districts of Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine, killing one person and wounding dozens, according to regional chief Ivan Fedorov. The attack, which occurred over a 90-minute span on Sunday evening, damaged 22 apartment buildings and injured 31 people, including a 16-year-old girl. The 71-year-old woman killed was identified as a victim of the bombardment.
Russia has employed glide bombs, which are Soviet-era munitions retrofitted with guidance systems, throughout the invasion to devastate Ukrainian cities. Ukraine currently lacks effective countermeasures against these weapons.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated his urgent appeal to international partners for more U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems, emphasizing their critical role in protecting civilians from ballistic missiles. He noted that while Patriots are available globally, political decisions are needed to supply them to Ukraine.
