US President Donald Trump lauded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, calling him 'courageous' and stating he was 'doing pretty well' in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump remarked that Zelenskyy was 'holding his own at least' and acknowledged the significant loss of life on both sides.
Trump's remarks coincided with Ukraine's efforts to disrupt Russian control in Crimea by targeting energy infrastructure and transportation routes. Ukrainian officials have indicated that these actions could lead to 'unexpected consequences' for Russia, with reports of a fuel crisis emerging in the peninsula due to the attacks.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced that its forces had conducted strikes on air defence systems and military airfields in Crimea, including hitting four aircraft hangars at the Saky airfield and destroying components of S-400 and Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft systems near Kerch.
Earlier in the week, Zelenskyy met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and leaders from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the United Kingdom to discuss Ukraine's air defence capabilities. The European leaders pledged continued support for Ukraine's defence and its path toward NATO membership.
