The United States announced it is mobilizing assistance for Venezuela following strong earthquakes that struck west of the capital, Caracas, on Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stated on X that the U.S. was in touch with Venezuelan authorities and mobilizing aid, describing the earthquakes as "devastating."
U.S. State Department official Jeremy Lewin also announced on X that the department had mobilized a disaster assistance team and task force to coordinate critical aid. He added that the U.S. would be sending search and rescue teams, medical and humanitarian supplies, and other resources in the crucial days following the natural disaster, working with partners in the interim Venezuelan government.
