Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on June 25 that Belarus is nearing completion of military infrastructure along the border with Ukraine, warning of potential aggression. He reported that road infrastructure and storage bases for ammunition and fuel are almost finished, noting these facilities have solely military purposes.
Zelensky's comments come amid ongoing concerns that Russia is attempting to involve Belarus more deeply in its conflict with Kyiv. Exiled Belarusian opposition figures have also provided intelligence suggesting President Alexander Lukashenko is shifting towards a wartime posture. Zelensky indicated that Ukraine has communicated its concerns to Belarus and expects Minsk to take steps toward de-escalation.
This development follows Lukashenko's apparent acceptance of Ukraine's demand to remove communications equipment on Belarusian territory that Kyiv claims aided Russian drone strikes. Historically, Belarus has served as a staging ground for Russian military operations, including the initial invasion and subsequent air assaults, and has supplied military hardware to Russian forces.
