European Parliament to probe far-right ESN party over values compliance

The European Commission's review of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) has been postponed by two days, with the new date set for July 17. Concurrently, the European People's Party (EPP) is actively advocating for an increase in free pollution allowances allocated to heavy industry. This push is specifically targeted for the period beyond 2030, with the EPP aiming to maintain the competitiveness of these industries.

In a separate development, the European Parliament is preparing to initiate a formal procedure against the Europe of Sovereign Nations (ESN) party. This far-right group includes Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) party among its members. The investigation centers on alleged violations of the European Union's core values. Should the ESN party be found non-compliant with these values, it could face severe consequences, including the potential loss of its official registration and the cessation of its funding.
