A man identified as Anujkumar Chandraprakash Trivedi has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating a large-scale matrimonial fraud, targeting over 25 women across various Indian states. Police claim Trivedi, who operated under multiple aliases including Ajay Agarwal and Jaiprakash Rameshchand Gupta, posed as an ideal groom on matrimonial platforms to gain the trust of vulnerable women, often those who were divorced, disabled, or mentally challenged.
The case gained prominence following a complaint by a 75-year-old woman whose daughter was allegedly married by Trivedi in March 2019. The family reportedly handed over Rs 82 lakh in cash, with Trivedi promising to purchase new property. Subsequently, he allegedly fled with 33 tolas of jewellery during a trip to Delhi, leaving the family with a total loss of approximately Rs 97 lakh.
Investigators revealed a pattern of deception, suggesting Trivedi systematically exploited women's vulnerabilities for financial gain. A luxury car worth around Rs 20 lakh, purchased with alleged fraud money, has been seized. Authorities also recovered three mobile phones and a fake Aadhaar card from the accused.
Further investigation led to the identification of Trivedi's son as a co-accused, allegedly involved in facilitating the fraud. Trivedi was also found to be wanted in a separate cheating case in Amravati, where he allegedly defrauded a woman of Rs 25 lakh using a different identity. Police are appealing to potential victims to come forward as the investigation continues, with the possibility of uncovering more victims and making this one of the most significant matrimonial fraud cases in recent times.
