Hong Kong police have arrested seven individuals, including four men and three women aged between 20 and 39, in connection with a pre-planned robbery of six gold bars valued at HK$7 million (US$893,102). The incident occurred in an airport car park where a 36-year-old man, hired by a Chinese businessman to transport the gold from Indonesia, was ambushed by three knife-wielding suspects.
The victim sustained injuries to his thigh and arm during the attack. Police utilized the city's surveillance camera network to trace the suspects and recovered a seven-seater vehicle believed to be used in the crime, finding knives and other evidence inside, though the gold bars remain missing.
Investigators suspect an insider tip-off, as the perpetrators appeared to know the victim's flight, route, and parking location. Some of the arrested individuals have triad backgrounds, and authorities are pursuing leads that some suspects have fled to mainland China, requesting assistance from mainland law enforcement.
The investigation is ongoing, with police examining potential customs violations related to the gold's entry into Hong Kong.
