Hong Kong is grappling with a tragic double suicide involving a mother and her daughter. The incident began when a 48-year-old social worker, reportedly with no prior mental health issues, argued with her 12-year-old daughter over educational matters. Following the dispute, the mother fell from their 19th-floor apartment in Taikoo Shing.
Hours later, the daughter also died by suicide, jumping from their home. The daughter had discovered her mother's body and alerted the authorities. She was subsequently taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where she was advised to seek help for her emotional well-being. A clinical psychologist, who was also the mother's former supervisor, assessed the daughter. She returned home later that evening with her father.
