The new Lumo 2.0 version, available immediately, introduces advanced features such as image recognition and generation, allowing users to upload and analyze or edit images directly within the chatbot interface. This update also expands the capabilities of Proton's 'Projects' widget, enabling users to conduct work across Proton's suite of products with enhanced document analysis. A key new feature is user-controlled persistent memory, which allows Lumo to recall user preferences across different conversation sessions. Proton states that Lumo 2.0 has been re-engineered for substantially improved performance, responding up to 76 percent faster than its predecessor and incorporating a new 'thinking mode' for more complex problem-solving. Andy Yen, Founder and CEO of Proton, highlighted that the upgrade demonstrates that powerful AI capabilities and strong privacy protections can coexist. Lumo 2.0 operates with Proton's signature zero-access encryption architecture, ensuring user data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with no server-side logging retained. The company also commits to not using customer data for AI training or sharing it with third parties. The chatbot is available in a free version, with enhanced resources offered through paid Plus and Professional tiers.
