Google has introduced an enhanced version of its Quick Share feature, designed to simplify content sharing between Android devices. Announced alongside its Pixel 11 product launches, the updated Quick Share allows users to exchange information such as contact details, photos, and videos simply by tapping their devices together.
The new functionality enables an "instant, two-way exchange" when compatible Android devices are brought into close proximity. Users can initiate sharing from their phone's Share Sheet and then complete the transfer by tapping the devices. This development positions Google's sharing capabilities more directly against Apple's AirDrop and its NFC-powered NameDrop feature, which offers similar contact and content sharing by touching iPhones.
The Quick Share update is commencing its rollout on Wednesday for Pixel 6 and newer devices. Google has stated that the feature will also be available on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 models shortly thereafter, with broader device support expected by the end of the year.
