The viral boy band Boy Throb, with a significant following on TikTok and Instagram, is facing scrutiny from U.S. immigration officials as they attempt to secure an O-1 nonimmigrant visa for bandmate Darshan Magdum, who is based in India. Magdum's application has been met with a request for evidence (RFE) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), prompting the band to take action to prove their legitimacy. To demonstrate they are a real musical ensemble, the members organized a live performance in New York City, titled 'Throbchella presented by Air.' The band members, Evan Papier, Anthony Key, and Zachary Sobania, stated that the show was intended to prove to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that they are a legitimate musical group. The O-1 visa is designated for individuals possessing extraordinary ability or a demonstrated record of extraordinary achievement. Despite their efforts, skepticism persists among some fans and online communities, with theories circulating that the band might be industry-backed. The band members expressed that such speculation is offensive and directly harms their mission to prove their authenticity to the government and their fans. The band has also released original songs like 'Number One Boy,' which they described as a 'love letter to America,' and 'Can't Stop The Throb,' and an anti-bullying anthem 'Finger.' Their live show at Manhattan's Bowery Ballroom was their second-ever live performance.
