The U.S. State Department announced on Thursday that it is imposing visa restrictions on individuals deemed to be undermining peace in Ethiopia. The measures are specifically targeting hardline members of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and their immediate family members.
According to a statement from the State Department, rising tensions between TPLF hardliners and the Ethiopian government have created a risk of reigniting conflict in northern Ethiopia and jeopardizing peace and security across the entire region.
The visa restriction policy is designed to hold accountable individuals who are responsible for, or complicit in, undermining the resolution of the crisis in the Tigray region.
