UK lawmakers are scheduled to debate the influence of pro-Israel lobbying groups on British politics on Monday. This parliamentary discussion follows a petition that has garnered over 118,000 signatures, exceeding the threshold for consideration.
The petition's supporters are concerned about reported Israeli state-linked and pro-Israel lobbying activity, believing it warrants examination in light of the UK's political response to the war in Gaza and settler violence in the West Bank. They aim to determine the scope and impact of such influence campaigns on government decisions, party policies, and public discourse.
However, the UK government previously stated in April that it does not support launching a public inquiry into the matter. While acknowledging concerns about foreign influence, the government pointed to existing transparency frameworks, including quarterly publications of ministers' external meetings, a register for consultant lobbyists, and parliamentary codes of conduct. Additionally, an independent review into foreign financial influence and interference, led by Philip Rycroft, concluded in March 2026, building on reforms announced in July 2025.
