John Savage, the coach of UCLA's baseball team, has been honored with the Skip Bertman Coach of the Year award by the College Baseball Foundation. Savage's UCLA Bruins team achieved the No. 1 ranking for the entire regular season and matched a program record with 52 wins. They secured both the Big Ten Conference regular-season and tournament championships before losing in the NCAA Tournament regionals. The team's 48 regular-season wins set a new program high.
Savage expressed his gratitude, stating, “Having Skip Bertman’s name on the trophy says everything. He’s the legend of legends in this game.”
Several other players also received national honors. Jackson Flora of UC Santa Barbara was named national pitcher of the year. Additionally, Gene Stephenson, a former Wichita State coach with over 1,800 wins and a national championship, was presented with the Wayne Graham Award for Teaching Excellence. Graham, a longtime coach at Rice, passed away in 2024.
