Seoul Mayor Oh vows to make city a global top three contender

In an interview with Yonhap News Agency, Oh stated that achieving a "global top three city" status is not merely about rankings but about enhancing the quality of life for residents. He plans to establish a committee to guide the city government's direction over the next four years, focusing on areas where Seoul can excel to rival cities like London, Tokyo, New York, Paris, and Singapore.

Seoul was ranked sixth in the 2025 Global Power City Index compiled by the Japan-based Mori Memorial Foundation. The index evaluates cities based on economy, research and development, cultural interaction, livability, environment, and accessibility. Oh expressed confidence that continuous efforts in these areas could propel Seoul to a top-three position.

Despite his electoral success and his party's strong performance in the local elections, Oh dismissed any immediate presidential ambitions. He stated that he has no plans for higher office and believes that political success is not solely achieved through planning, emphasizing his current focus on governing Seoul.
