Newly released dashcam footage from the Pasadena Police Department captures the moment a police officer was accidentally shot by a colleague during an incident described as "horseplay." The video, made public on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, relates to a shooting that occurred in September 2025. The footage shows one officer drawing his firearm and then returning it to its holster. Subsequently, the officer seated inside a patrol car also drew a firearm, which discharged, striking the other officer in the shoulder. Police Chief Gene Harris stated that the officer who fired, identified as Roy Alatorre, was terminated. Harris emphasized that "horseplay and/or failure to adhere to safety rules and standards of professional conduct will not be tolerated." The officer who was wounded has since recovered and remains employed by the department. The administrative investigation is complete, but criminal and use-of-force reviews are ongoing.
