A new political organization, Guardrails Alliance, has launched with the stated goal of confronting the spending of the pro-AI super PAC Leading the Future (LTF). Guardrails Alliance intends to represent parents, unions, and tech workers, aiming to expose how a group of AI billionaires is attempting to influence elections. The organization announced its first ad buy of $250,000 in support of New York Assembly member Alex Bores in New York's 12th Congressional District race.
Leading the Future, which launched last year, has been a significant spender, reportedly investing over $7 million against Bores' campaign. LTF typically backs candidates who advocate for a "positive, forward-looking agenda for AI innovation." The PAC has received funding from notable figures and entities in the AI and venture capital space, including OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, venture capitalist Joe Lonsdale, AI firm Perplexity, and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.
The launch comes shortly before the New York Democratic primary for the 12th Congressional District. Alex Bores is in a close race with Micah Lasher, according to polling data. Other groups supporting Bores against LTF's attacks include Public First and Dream NYC, with Dream NYC framing Bores as a candidate who will "stand up to Trump’s billionaire allies." Separately, a super PAC named You Can Push Back received $3.5 million from cryptocurrency executive Chris Larsen last month to support Bores.
