The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has issued an interim order staying proceedings against actor Salman Khan before a District Consumer Commission. The case concerns a complaint alleging a misleading pan masala advertisement featuring Khan.
The NCDRC's decision came during the hearing of an appeal challenging directions previously issued by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) in Kota, specifically regarding the verification of signatures of the opposite parties, including Khan.
A bench comprising NCDRC President Justice A P Sahi and member Bharat Kumar Pandya observed that the appeal raised substantial questions about the jurisdiction exercised by the district forum and the manner in which proceedings were conducted. The commission also took note of a prior interim order from the Rajasthan High Court on May 27, which had stayed the operation of the district commission's direction on signature verification.
