Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for a "cowardly" assault on two female police officers at Manchester Airport in July 2024. The attack, which went viral, resulted in Pc Lydia Ward suffering a broken nose.
During the sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court, Pc Ward, who is now a police sergeant, delivered a powerful victim personal statement. She described Amaaz's actions as cowardly, noting that he chose to attack a smaller, female officer. She also expressed anger that Amaaz had portrayed himself as the victim and shown no remorse.
Amaaz was also convicted of assaulting Pc Ellie Cook, who was knocked to the ground during the incident. In addition to the assaults on the officers, Amaaz had previously been found guilty of assaulting a member of the public at a nearby Starbucks café. Prosecutors stated Amaaz resisted arrest with a "high level of violence".
Judge Flewitt KC criticized Amaaz for his "total lack of remorse" and for attempting to blame others for his actions. The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Sir Stephen Watson QPM, highlighted that assaults on officers are common and unacceptable, emphasizing the need for respect for those who protect the public.
