President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea extended an official invitation to Pope Leo XIV to visit the country in 2027, coinciding with South Korea's hosting of World Youth Day. The invitation was made during a meeting between the two leaders at the Vatican, as part of Lee's European tour.
During the meeting, Lee and Pope Leo XIV agreed to collaborate on ensuring the success of the 2027 World Youth Day event. National security adviser Wi Sung-lac stated that the Pope was officially invited to visit South Korea on that occasion.
