Republican John Cowan has won the primary runoff election for Georgia's 11th Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ. Cowan, a neurosurgeon, defeated rival Rob Adkerson, who served as chief of staff to retiring Rep. Barry Loudermilk.
Cowan previously ran unsuccessfully for a neighboring House district against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2020. He and Adkerson advanced from the initial May primary after neither candidate secured the majority needed to win outright.
President Trump notably did not endorse a candidate in this primary. Rep. Loudermilk had backed Adkerson as his successor. Loudermilk's decision to retire marks the 29th GOP House lawmaker to not seek reelection in 2026, as Republicans aim to maintain their majority.
In a separate race, Republican Representative Mike Collins defeated Derek Dooley in a runoff election for the GOP nomination for Senate in Georgia, Decision Desk HQ projected.
The Cook Political Report rates the 11th Congressional District seat as solidly Republican, positioning Cowan for a likely win in the general election.
