Delhi Police has implemented a new directive requiring joint foot patrols by district and traffic police personnel on weekends and two weekdays, from 5 pm to 8 pm. This initiative, stemming from directions by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, aims to bolster visible policing, enhance public safety, and improve traffic management across the national capital.
Commissioner of Police Sanjay Arora issued the circular to senior officers, emphasizing that the three-hour period is compulsory field duty. Supervisory officers, including Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Additional DCPs, and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), are directed to avoid office work, meetings, and indoor reviews to focus on field supervision, public interaction, and immediate corrective actions.
During these patrols, officers are expected to engage with residents, traders, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs). The patrols will also focus on identifying and removing temporary encroachments, resolving traffic bottlenecks, taking action against illegal parking, inspecting vulnerable locations, and coordinating with civic agencies for local issue resolution.
Each district and traffic unit must prepare a weekly joint patrolling plan and maintain detailed records of their activities, including routes, contacts, actions taken, and issues resolved. Weekly compliance reports, along with photographs and videography of patrols and enforcement actions, are to be submitted to senior officers. Lapses in compliance will be viewed seriously.
