Jim Schultz continues the beginner series with the difference nobody explains clearly: when to buy a vertical spread and when to sell one. Buying one is a pure directional shot, and its advantage over just buying a call or a put is that the short leg cancels out most of the daily time decay that quietly drains a single long option. Selling one changes the whole character of the trade. You still pick a side, but direction stops being the star. Time now works for you, the probability of profit is higher, and you do not need the move at all, just for the underlying to stay out of trouble. The trade-off is that you risk more to make less in exchange for that wider margin for error. This is education, not a recommendation. 📊 tastylive: https://www.tastylive.com/ 📰 Get Tom's pre-market analysis every morning: https://www.tastylive.com/newsletters 📘 FREE Options Strategy Guide: https://tinyurl.com/bp9ms763 📱 Follow tastylive on X: https://x.com/tastyliveshow Chapters 00:00 Building on vertical spreads 00:37 When a long vertical makes sense 01:39 How spreading off tames time decay 02:28 What changes with a short vertical 03:26 Now the clock works for you 04:11 Setting up a long vertical live 06:38 Compared to just buying the option 08:20 Setting up a short vertical 10:40 Seeing the wider profit zone #tastylive #optionsforbeginners #verticalspread #jimschultz #wheredoistart #creditspread #thetadecay #optionsstrategy #optionsbasics #optionseducation tastylive is a real financial network, producing hours of live programming every day.
