Selling options very far out of the money produces the win rate everyone wants, north of 90 percent in this back test. The problem is what you collect for it. In the five delta case the credit is so thin that a single maximum loss offsets roughly 23 winning trades, which is enough to flatten a long run of green. Going the other way is not free either. Higher delta trades collect more and tie up less capital, so return on capital looks great on paper, but a 50 delta condor behaves like a butterfly that has to pin a narrow window, and the realized average lands far below the maximum. This test, on SPX iron condors with fixed wing width held to expiration since 2023, found the balanced zone in the middle of the range. The rule of thumb: collecting more than half the width of your spread means a low-probability trade, less than half means a high-probability one, and going too far is its own risk. This is education, not a recommendation. 📊 tastylive: https://www.tastylive.com/ 📰 Get Tom's pre-market analysis every morning: https://www.tastylive.com/newsletters 📘 FREE Options Strategy Guide: https://tinyurl.com/bp9ms763 📱 Follow tastylive on X: https://x.com/tastyliveshow Chapters 00:00 How delta changes your risk 00:33 Why short delta drives everything 01:11 The test parameters 01:47 Why high delta looks attractive 03:37 Return on capital can deceive 05:38 Variability is what you give up 07:32 The real downside of going wide 09:47 Recapping the findings 11:13 The rule of thumb #tastylive #0dte #ironcondor #optionstrading #shortpremium #probability #riskmanagement #spx #optionsresearch #optionseducation tastylive is a real financial network, producing hours of live programming every day.
