Ukraine Wheat Exports Halved as Corn Exports Doubled

StoneX3 hours ago9:49

Black Sea grain exports are running well below last year, with Ukraine shipping about half the wheat it did and nearly double the corn. Bertrand Oesterle, StoneX VP of Clearing & Execution Sales, breaks down what is moving wheat and corn across the Black Sea, the United States, Europe and South America. Ukrainian wheat shipments sit at roughly 2 million tonnes against 4 million at the same point last year, while Russian September loadings are estimated below the previous month and far below last year. Algeria returned to the market with a large milling wheat tender that took Romanian, Bulgarian and potentially Baltic origin rather than Black Sea, and Morocco's subsidy window has opened. On the corn side, the U.S. Department of Agriculture trimmed its yield estimate as harvest got underway, Europe's crop is confirmed poor and European Union corn imports are running ahead of last year, with South American supply now in focus.
