Fed Rate Hold Offers No Relief From Energy Shock Inflation

The Fed interest rate decision held rates steady, offering borrowers no relief as energy shocks and tariffs drive inflation beyond the reach of hikes. Josh Cannington, StoneX VP of Interest Rate Derivatives, explains what the split Federal Reserve decision means for businesses and borrowers. Two Federal Reserve policymakers, Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack and Governor Lisa Cook, dissented in favor of a quarter-point hike, with Cook's vote framed as a stamp of Fed independence rather than a political signal. Rate hikes have limited reach over energy, tariffs and AI infrastructure spending, although higher term rates add slow pressure and pending home sales sit at all-time lows. Businesses with floating-rate loans get no relief, while fixed rates already price in expected hikes, which supports a blended approach to interest rate risk management. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh also plans to drop some rate meetings in favor of strategy sessions, a change that is too early to read into. 00:00 - Split Fed Holds Rates Steady 00:36 - Cook and Hammack Break Ranks 01:54 - Energy and Tariffs Defy Hikes 03:44 - Housing Feels the Squeeze 04:09 - No Shelter for Floating Rates 05:17 - Warsh Drops Rate Meetings Discover Actionable Markets Insights with StoneX Market Intelligence: https://shop.stonex.com/collections/all?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sxtv_guest_josh_cannington&utm_content=share Like and subscribe for more financial market insights. #FederalReserve #StoneX #JoshCannington #InterestRates --------- Like this video?
